During normal breathing, the diaphragm (a chest muscle that helps you breathe) moves downward when you inhale air. This causes the pressure in the sacs and tubes in your lungs to drop, and the lungs draw air inside. However, if you have a chronic condition such as sleep apnea or other obstructions, your lungs may not get enough air that you need while you sleep. This increases the risk of a heart attack.
